Tent Conflict

You have your tarps, your tents, and your tarp-tents. It is a hard decision to figure out what you want to use. Most of it chalks up to personal preference and comfort level. If I were experienced setting up tarps I would carry just a tarp and a ground cloth, but then I think of my nights backpacking on Kauai. The Mosquitos were so thick I could hardly see. It was like a black cloud. I was thrilled to kill the ones that made it in and then be alone in my tent. It was also fun to watch them outside of the mesh (there was a soap opera going on where this one guy was cheating on the other girl right next to her and it went down, nature TV.) I also think of how happy I was on the Tuscarora Trail to have an easy set up on rocky surfaces.
I think I have narrowed down what is important to me in a shelter. 1) I need to be able to sit up/change 2) I'm going with a tent of some kind, I like the privacy and I like the ease of setup. 3) I need to be able to put it up without a trekking pole. I know everyone likes to get on me because I don't like trekking poles, but I can't help it. Maybe it is like going into turbo gear up hill, but turbo gear isn't my style. 4) It needs to be not super expensive. I don't have a lot of money. I am willing to spend more on things that will last, but I don't have the money to collect gear. The only reason I'm buying a new one is because Kauai humidity didn't do wonders for my Eureka Spitfire.
With that said here are my thoughts.
