This is so much harder of a decision than I originally planned. I usually don't have nice gear so I just put up with whatever I have. This is good because everything has it's flaws, but it doesn't make me the most decisive gear shopper. There are somethings I am very particular about, I'm find that tents is not really one of them.
I was hoping an buddy who completed the AT would help me narrow it down but after bourbon, guacamole, and a game of Settlers of Catan, the options were even more endless.
I'm thinking I sweat a lot and want to have a net independent of the rain fly so I can sleep out under the stars but still remove myself from mosquitos. So this ups the weight of my tent.
Tarptent Moment: I have a mini love affair with Henry Shire's tents and the videos that accompany them. I fell in love with this 34oz, $269 beast.
Six Moon Designs Skyscape: I kind of love how the rain fly rolls up in the center. It gets pretty amazing reviews and it is only 24oz (27.6oz with poles, remember I don't use trekking poles) and $225. Not bad. Actually, writing this is making think I should buy this one. image is from Stick's blog.
